3.4 Prototyping, Pre-Production, Model-Making, and Fabrication Support (Detail)
A recent example of Wyle’s prototyping experience is its efforts as prime contractor on contract N00421-02-D-3181 for the P-3C DSICU discussed in Section 3.1. Detailed technical requirements, including electrical and mechanical interface definitions and characterization, and all required parts procurement and material control details were identified during initial concept definition. Using MultiSIM electronic signal simulation, ORCAD electrical schematic capture, and PADS Printed Circuit Board (PCB) CAD tools, Wyle developed complete circuit schematics, PCB artwork and assembly drawings. Wyle used Alibere CAD for 3-D mechanical part and assembly design for the ruggedized enclosure and IDEAS Master Modeler and ALGOR to perform the thermal and structural analyses.
Throughout the design and development process, Wyle generated detailed electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, parts lists, parts data sheets, interface specifications, timing diagrams, assembly procedures, functional test procedures, and environmental stress screening (ESS) procedures. Wyle also designed sub-assembly test fixtures to perform CCA production testing and thermal ESS; and system level test fixtures to perform final production testing and vibration ESS. Wyle compiled the detailed documentation into a comprehensive technical data package to form the basis for pre-production and production fabrication and assembly. Each drawing or document in the technical data package was used to build and test all items, from mock-ups or prototypes through pre-production and First Article build. |
