3.13 Ship Inactivation and Disposal Support

Wyle’s experience in this area has included, primarily, support to NAVAIR and the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP) on the A-6 and P-3 programs.  Typical tasking has included selection of aircraft for disposal and/or retention, development of disposal plans, identification of parts/components/systems for retention, investigation of Foreign Military Sales issues, and investigation of issues associated with Trade Security Controls and Military Critical Technologies List items.

In support of the A-6 program, Wyle has supported the deactivation of the entire A-6E aircraft inventory, including both disposal and the retention of selected aircraft for possible reactivation for foreign sales. Tasking included preparation of a disposition plan to guide the process of aircraft phase-out and disposal/storage, and coordination with NADEP Norfolk and the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center to identify parts, components and systems to be retained. Considerations during the planning and implementation process included requirements of DOD 4160.21, the Munitions Item List, the Trade Security Controls and Military Critical Technologies List, and guidance for the handling and destruction/reclassification of technical data and information.
